Introduce concept of Independent cinema and unique film experiences.  
How is it different and why is it important?
Show pictures from last year’s project.  
BDC students- short presentations on alternative cinema forms

Introduce film and briefly discuss potential.  In 3 groups students brainstorm film.

Monday afternoon
WHOLE GROUP
Research out in community, collect evidence – time of day, activities, age group, target audience etc.
Afterwards collate evidence.
Watch chosen film.
Come in on Monday with ideas

The purpose of this assignment is to:  
1 Understand the range and nature of arts in the community
2 Understand the skills and processes needed to run a community arts project
3 Understand the roles and responsibilities within a community arts project
4 Be able to undertake roles in the setting up and running of a community arts project
Scenario
Working in a group, you will take part in a given Community Arts project with an external organisation/partnership.  A Community Arts Project should be BY, FOR AND WITH the group that you are working with. Through workshops, research and discussions, you will gain knowledge about the different types of arts in the community projects that exist, as well as the skills and roles involved in making such projects happen.  You will take on a specific role, and help to run, your own group’s community arts project, as well as analysing and evaluating this work as you do it.
Task 1
You will contribute to a specific arts project, helping to tailor it for the specific needs of the participants.  As well as contributing creatively to a final artistic product, you will be expected to carry out other specified roles towards the running of this project, such as facilitating workshops, organising meetings with the client group and additional administrative tasks that will be necessary for a successful project. Your process will be assessed through observation by your teacher.

Task 2  – Log Book
·       You will research a Community Arts company (*see suggestions below.)  You will focus on the roles within the organisation and understand how they contribute to the working of different projects.  Use an example of one specific project by your given company, analysing the skills and processes needed to run a community arts project. 
·       You will record the process of creating your Community Arts project. You must identify the roles and responsibilities that you have taken on within this project. You should evaluate the work your group has done, analysing the skills, processes and roles needed to run a community arts project.
Deadline: Friday Week 7 of Term 5- (please submit to your project tutor.)
Your log books will be marked by your teacher – criteria P1, M1, D1, P2, M2, D2, P3, M3, D3, P4, M4, D4
